About Us

The Cactus and Succulent Society of America (CSSA), founded in 1929, is a worldwide community of avid gardeners, hobby and commercial horticulturists, nurserymen, and professional scientists who all share an appreciation for cacti and other types of succulent plants. The objectives of the Society are reflected in our Mission Statement

The CSSA strives to promote the appreciation, knowledge, and conservation of cacti and succulents, through publications, conventions, shows, seed bank, research grants, and travel opportunities. Additionally, CSSA encourages captive propagation of plants by seeds, cuttings, and tissue culture to discourage the collection of plants from wild populations. These activities are shared with its constituent members, affiliate groups and for use in outreach to the general public.

Four times a year members receive the full-color Cactus and Succulent Journal, widely regarded as the best and most authoritative periodical on succulent and xerophytic (dry loving) plants. Members also receive our To The Point e-newsletter, have access to our seed bank, and can participate in our conventions and field trips.

CSSA Biennial Convention
The CSSA puts on a convention every odd year. This is a special event for members, as we get together from across the country and around the world to learn from expert speakers, attend tours and field trips, and shop for plants and supplies. In some years we offer special events, such as workshops, and the opening and closing banquets are always great fun.
